Abstract

This autoethnographic study explores the ways that mindfulness meditation methods can mitigate the symptoms of bipolar disorder. An application called Headspace was used to practice meditation in rural and urban settings, paying particular attention to the ability of these practices allow the user to 1) become present; 2) be aware of thoughts/feelings; and 3) develop acceptance. These findings are used to develop recommendations for employing mindfulness and meditation in both rural and urban settings.
