Proposal Abstract

By using visual information, the presenter will share strategies that assist English for Academic Purposes students in understanding and internalizing a number of abstract concepts in academic writing. Workshop participants will be invited to complete hands-on exercises that illustrate the presented points. At the end of the workshop, participants will engage in a short discussion on ways of implementing the new information in their teaching.

Statement

The presentation directly reflects one of this year's Teaching Practices Colloquium sub-themes, namely Connection, Engagement, and Exploration, by discussing strategies that allow academic writing students a much higher level of engagement with the material, thus enabling them to learn and explore issues of interest more effectively through writing.
