Abstract

This essay discusses the idea that the Black Death was facilitated by human ingenuity rather than circumstance. In this paper we look at the development of the heavy plow, the urbanization of northern Europe and the decline that took place prior to the Black death. In short, by being able to access farmland previously unobtainable through old technologies the population of Europe was able to accelerate to unprecedented numbers by the 14th century.
