Abstract

Quality of life is an interdisciplinary research topic that takes cues from philosophy, sociology, economics, health studies and geography. My research takes an in depth look at the study of quality of life in urban areas, defining quality of life and discussing a brief history of how the idea caught the attention of urban geographers. I examine a case study on the effects of greenspaces on the quality of life, and results from a number of papers on the topic are considered, compared and contrasted. Most cities have grown in the last few decades, and that growth is projected to continue. By gaining a better understanding of the locational factors that lead to better quality of life, local governments and city planners can gain insight on how to increase the well-being of their residents.
